Before invisible braces were a common part of cosmetic dentistry, the only option was the metal braces that many of us either wore as teens or had a friend that did. Teens that had the treatment done were required to withstand the teasing that goes along with wearing a smile resembling the grill of a 1954 Buick. For adults who elected the procedure, self consciousness was the high emotional price tag.

With the breakthrough of the Invisalign teeth alignment system, a teen or an adult can get their perfect smile without the embarrassment, the discomfort and the difficulty of brushing standard braces. In fact, the Invisalign system is not braces at all. It is a revolutionary dental alignment system where an impression is taken of the patients teeth after an orthodontic assessment of the corrections required.

The impressions are sent to the manufacturer who produces 18 to 30 soft clear, plastic alignment trays that slip comfortably over the entire row of teeth. This virtually invisible aligner is worn for two weeks at which time it is replaced with another. As the alignment progresses the replacement is done every two weeks until the desired results are attained. An orthodontist is visited every 8 to 10 weeks to monitor the progress and to maintain hygiene. Aside form those visits there is no maintenance or adjusting required. It is a comfortable process that leaves the patient with all their dignity and self confidence.

During this treatment process, the wearer should keep the aligner in place for 22 hours. It is worn to bed and is so comfortable sleep is never disturbed. It is removed when eating and for brushing. While brushing the teeth a person can also clean the aligner with a special Invisalign cleaning kit or a brushing and rinsing. This is not only for hygienic reasons but to maintain its invisibility.

The invisalign system takes as long as conventional braces to achieve the desired straightening of the teeth. Generally 6 to 15 months. It can be used for overbite, cross bite, crooked teeth, spaced teeth and several other conditions. There are absolutely no restrictions or changes to the lifestyle of the patient in regards to physical activity, eating, drinking or speaking clearly. They can be removed for contact sports when a mouth guard is required and can be worn or removed for playing musical instruments.

Braces that are invisible have revolutionized cosmetic dentistry and the way teeth alignment can be corrected. No more uncomfortable wires causing irritation. No more metal grills to be embarrassed or self conscious about. (No reference to the decorative gold “grills” worn by rappers and some athletes.) No more difficulty in brushing in between every meal or snack. Invisalign, the leader in invisible teeth straightening, has made these annoyances a thing of the past. But are they really invisible? Over 1.3 million cosmetic dental patients have received the treatment worldwide. How many have you seen?

Sleep dentistry and sedation dentistry are two entirely different approaches to having a relaxed and painless experience while at your local dentist office. No one likes or enjoys even the thought of having dental work done. The mere thoughts often cause the bravest of adults to avoid making that appointment.

Sleep dentistry is quite literally what it says; you are asleep while your dental work is being performed. Sedation dentistry is where you are actually awake but you are relaxed to a state of euphoria and feel absolutely no pain or discomfort during the dental work being performed.

Personally, being totally out with sleep dentistry is my preferred method. Do whatever is required and wake me when you’re done. While both have their advantages, make sure your dentist has the highest of recommendations. Using anesthesia is serious and being properly trained with this method of sedation is very critical to a dentist’s procedures.

With the business of dentistry being more focused on customer care and awareness today, you will find that most dentists are offering sleep or sedation dentistry advertising to encourage consumers to choose their services.

Administering sleep dentistry procedures is a complete comatose result, where as sedation dentistry leaves the patient awake and can be applied through inhalation of what most people know as laughing gas, oral sedation by ingesting pills, or by intravenous sedation.

It is always important to your health and a safe practice of your dentist to have an assistant on hand as an extra pair of eyes, ears, and awareness should complications arise. Especially, with the use of the sleep dentistry method. Anytime a person is under general anesthesia, the possibility of complications increases and having a trained staff available is vital to a safe operation.

Today’s modern dentist offices are a mental and visual stimulating experience. With running water, music, and other mood setting arrangements, the visit to your local dentist have changed significantly over past decades of trips to the dentist office. Sleep dentistry almost seems self defeating once you see how much has gone into the whole dentist office experience. It’s a shame you would want to sleep through the dental experience.

Prevalent curing problem connected with 3 rd molar therapy is probably alveolar osteitis also known as dry socket. The socket is an pit within the alveolar ridge from where the one’s teeth has been pulled. Immediately after having a one’s teeth taken out, a our blood clogs within the socket to guard the bone tissue as well as neural system underneath it. In some cases this clog dissolves a short time after the tooth removal. In this case, bone and also sensors are likely to be subjected to anything that may enter a person’s mouth. It is painful trouble which may be easily medicated. This condition normally happens in around five percents of folks, and is even more widespread in the lower jaw bone. This condition delays the healing progress.

Some individuals can be prone to have dry socket after getting a wisdom teeth taken out. Men and women that smoke, possess very poor dental hygiene, suffered more than common injury throughout the the teeth elimination surgical treatment, take birth control medications or maybe have a history involving alveolar osteitis after having teeth extracted have a propensity to obtain dry socket problems as soon as wisdom tooth is removed. Rinsing and also spitting a lot and sipping using a straw soon after having a third molar pulled may also enhance the probability to get alveolar osteitis.

Symptoms regarding dry socket problems include morning breath together with an awkward scent and also flavor inside your mouth. If you happen to check out the location where your 3rd molar had been removed, you will probably watch a dry-looking pit. Instead of a good mass of coagulated blood there will only be bone. The suffering usually will start approximately 2 days the moment the 3rd molar was removed. Over time it will become more serious and may also extend person’s ear.

After thethe toothis actually taken out, a person’s dentist professionist will certainly clean this alveolus and load the socket with a healing mixture or a particular paste to reinforce healing process. You will most probably ought to returning to the dentist professionist’s clinic daily for the dressing change till the air sac will begin to recover while your pain lessens.

The dentist professionist might prescribe antibiotic remedies to forestall tooth socketfrom getting to be contaminated. In order to maintain dry socket problem at your home, the tooth doctor might advice that pation himself rinse out with salt water or a specific gargle daily. Clove oil may lessen the discomfort and benefit the curing process.

Any oral surgeon will wait so that the alveolar osteitis is relieved. Treating normally takes up to a couple of weeks before placing dental implants.

Given that using cigarettes is usually a major hazard factor concerning alveolar osteitis, keep away from any kind of tobacco products for a day just before your operation. If you take birth control tablets, you can ask your oral surgeon about carrying out that treatment on a date when you’re using the smallest amount of female hormone. The hormone may affect the ability of the bloodstream to coagulate. Furthermore, talk to your dental practitioner about various other drugs you are currently taking that can reduce regular bloodstream clogging.

After surgery treatment, evade consuming fluids using a straw and spitting in the begining. As well do not rinse off your mouth your dental practitioner proposes. If you choose to wash out, do this gently. Be sure to visit the oral surgeon for the appointed follow-up appointments.

The traditional denture consists of a full set of teeth mounted in pink acrylic (denture base). The base rides on the gingival tissue (ridge). It presents disadvantages, mainly that chewing forces are transmitted to the gums, that causes pain and instability of the denture. Also with time, constant pressure on the bone surface causes bone atrophy and ridge resorbtion. That, in turn makes the denture less fit to the gums, even more unstable and uncomfortable to wear. Fortunately, all of these inconveniences can be eliminated by constructing a denture over implants (overdenture). Dental implants placed in strategical positions, have special attachments that retain a denture in place. They usually involve 4 to 8 implants, a bar connecting the denture or special male-female attachments that make the denture “clip” on the implants. Stability and chewing ability is greatly improved. Also the process of bone resorbtion stops, as chewing forces are transmitted in a different way through the implants. Implant overdentures can greatly improve the quality of life for a patient in need of dentures.

As dental patients, we must deal with the consequences of less than ideal home care, which can result in a not so enjoyable trip to the dentist. Since graduating from dental school in 1996, this is the most common complaint I hear. So what is the answer to this age old dilemma? Simply put, prevention is the key.

My focus is to educate patients of the benefits of preventing dental disease caused by cavities and periodontal disease (bone loss around the roots of the teeth). Prevention starts with dedicating the time and effort into an effective routine of brushing twice daily for two minutes, flossing and using a mouth rinse.

Nutrition is a key part of prevention. The balance of ph in your mouth is important in preventing decay. Choosing the right foods to maintain your ph level at 7 or above is one way to achieve this goal. If the ph level in your mouth drops below 5, the bacteria that causes decay grows and the teeth begin to breakdown. This then starts the cycle of dental disease. Keep in mind that this is a communicable disease, with the ability to be passed along from one individual to another.

High carbohydrate foods, carbonated beverages, sports drinks and high sugar juices lower the ph level and make us prone to decay. Overall health, age and certain medications also play a part. Another factor to consider is the quality and quantity of our saliva, as it plays a very important role in cavity prevention. Saliva is our buffering agent, re-mineralizing our tooth enamel with calcium and phosphate ions, protecting our teeth against cavity formation.

I am a strong believer that the battle for optimum oral and physical well being starts with prevention of tooth decay and periodontal disease. Our mouths are the gateway to our bodies reflecting on our overall well being.

Neglect of these diseases also contributes to factors for cardiac disease, strokes and diabetes.

If we understand the keys to prevention and practice optimal oral health care, your dental visits can become a more positive experience, geared toward just maintenance. It is up to you. You can win with prevention.

    The restorative dental implant
treatment starts by surgically embedding a base within the jawbone
to which an implant is placed. Implants are able to sustain one or
more absent teeth or be utilized to offer additional support for
lower arch dentures, while
improving both individual comfort and self-confidence. The full
procedure to place implants will sometimes take upwards of 9 months
to accomplish.

This type of treatment alternative is not suggested for everybody as
there is some amount of risk involved in such a complicated
treatment. Additional situations that prevent clients from taking
advantage of this treatment might involve some pre-existing medical conditions or poor
individual finances. Good
candidates for an implant must have the requisite bone structure
desired to support the embedded base.

The surgical area will be prepped during the opening phase of the
implant procedure. During which an implant cylinder is placed into
the receptor site. Then a sterile surgical screw, is often composed
of titanium alloys thanks to its compatibility with bone and oral
tissues, is placed within the receptor.

The soft tissue must then be closed up around the implant and left
to heal for around a couple of weeks. However, the bone could need
somewhere from 3 months to 6 months to fully heal and integrate with
the implant.

As soon as the jawbone and tissues have healed entirely, stage 2 of
the treatment can begin with the extraction of the soft tissue from
the surgical area, revealing the sealing screw. A connector pillar
is then screwed into the embed that now protrudes above the gum
line. The surgical site will need another 2 weeks to allow the
adjoining tissues time to repair while the prosthetic tooth is being built. Lastly, the
prosthetic will need to be inserted onto the posts. This new lasting
dental restoration will
supply both full performance and enhanced cosmetic appeal.

Of the various treatments available, dental implants on have turned out
to be a favorite for adults with tooth loss problems. Implants are
designed to retain the shape of your jaw, but they won’t feel or look
any different from your natural teeth. Although more expensive,
implants ultimately prove to be the better choice as well because they
offer more substantial value and greater durability. You’ve stumbled
upon the correct page if you want to find out the five important ways
implants can be of help to you and which clinic is considered to be the
leading provider of dental implants.

With implant dentistry, looking good won’t be a challenge. To multiply
the charm of your smile, the first thing you have to do is to know the
proper way of caring for your gums and teeth. Unlike other treatments,
teeth implants aren’t easily dislocated they certainly don’t look out
of place or ill-fitting. Implants won’t produce unwanted changes with
either your facial or jawbone structure. Tooth loss, on the other hand,
can lead to those changes and it can end up making you seem older than
you are. IF you want to stay youthful-looking longer, implants are the
answer you’re looking for.

Patients commonly put in a good word for dental implants because of how
simple and comfortable they are to use. A shifting bite structure as
well as shrinking jaws will gradually lead to loosening dentures.
Continued use of dentures may bring unwanted pressure on the gum area
and may then cause soreness and damage your nerves. If, however, you
choose to go with tooth implants, then not even people with clear
eyesight will be able to tell where natural teeth ends and where
implants start because they fit like it’s always been there.

When a person has his or her dentures on, there are certain foods he
has to avoid eating if he doesn’t want to risk denture removal or
dislocation. Implants, however, will eradicate such boundaries and you
can get them from an implants dentist. People with dentures have the
privilege to enjoy smorgasbords and buffets. A bridge laid over your
palate is one more discomfort you’d have to endure when sporting
dentures. Its presence could encumber your ability to enjoy your food.
To put an end to your “suffering” and start “living” again, you need to
get implants.

Dentures that don’t fit you properly could make you mumble and slur
your words, but you won’t have to worry about this if you start working
with an implant dentist. Your words will not be decipherable to others
when your dentures start to wear over time. Until you get rid of those
dentures, you will either have to keep your mouth closed, move it
little by little as if you’re miming, or mumble, which is the best
you’d be able to do. A tooth implant is all the more necessary when you
often speak in public and you don’t want to become an embarrassment on
stage. When the implants are done, you can speak as long and as you
wish and never have to worry about your pronunciation.

Do you know that dentures have to be cleaned and applied daily for
effective use? But with implants, you won’t be subjected to fussy
maintenance procedures and denture adhesives. When you brush your
teeth, you get to clean your implants as well and that’s good enough to
maintain its effectiveness.

Dental implants are an efficient choice for many suffering from tooth
loss. With this treatment, you’ll not only retain your jaw structure
but you’ll surprise everyone with the beauty of your smile, too. To
know more about the plus side of having implants, talk to an implant
dentistry specialist.

The tooth decay the dentist found on the elderly man’s mouth was one
highly unusual black hole on one of his front teeth. It turns out the
man gagged on his heart medicine when he stuck the nitroglycerine
tablets under his tongue where they’re supposed to go so instead he
stuck them under his top lip. These tablets ate away at his tooth,
creating that big hole.

Hundreds of medicines that Americans take every day, from the country’s
most popular blood pressure pills to chewable vitamin C tablets, can
cause serious tooth decay and gum disease, oral medicine experts told
the American Dental Association. According to the oral medicine
experts, doctors might not have a clue that these dental side effects
exist, and if they do know, they’re not telling.

A dentist and pharmacologist at the University of Buffalo pointed out
the need for patients to reveal their medical history and medications
to their dentists. He said they have to look very carefully at the
medicines their patients take and think very carefully about the side
effects.

Drug side effects, as presented by oral medicine specialists who taught
at this week’s ADA meeting, include the following. Gum swelling is
apparently suffered by 20% of patients who take calcium channel
blockers for high blood pressure and heart disease. Gum disease and
swelling are caused by the invasion of bacteria through the open
pockets in gums brought by inflammation. Some of these medicines are
taken by most Americans.

Drugs for epilepsy and drugs for child hyperactivity may also cause
similar swellings. A more serious type of overgrowth of the gums is a
side effect of cyclosporin, a drug used to prevent organ rejection.
Inflammation caused by leukemia is similar in appearance.

A lot of drugs are responsible for causing dry mouth, which is also
caused by radiation treatment. Since not enough saliva can pose as a
dental problem for people, those who suffer from lack of it may need
topical fluoride treatment. Problems may be so severe that the dentist
would often ask doctors to change their prescription to another drug if
possible.

If not, then regular trips to the dentist are in order, as well as
strict plaque control. Another dentist pointed out that a clean mouth
is all you need to prevent gum side effects. If no plaque can be found
in the mouth, then there’s nothing to worry about, he said.

He had in his possession of a Dilantin patient with extremly swollen
gums. He stated that a patient who is taking Dilantin is recommended to
consult the dentist in 10 days so that the gum pockets where bacteria
lurks could be treated. Prescription drugs are not the only sources of
dental problems. Aside from medicines, lozenges and cough drops could
pose as a problem since they contain sugar.

Repeated occurrence of cavities was the problem of one woman. Dentists
couldn’t understand why she had this condition when she brushed
regularly and did not eat so many sweets. Later on, it was discovered
by the receptionist that the woman was popping three packs of antacids
into her mouth every day.
