Procedures Utilized in General Dentistry

general dentistry fresnoAt Fresno Dental Studio, our focus is on utilizing the latest cosmetic dentistry procedures to create beautiful smiles, but we never lose sight of the fact that healthy teeth come first. In addition to practicing cosmetic dentistry, we also perform an array of general dentistry procedures for patients of all ages. Beautiful teeth begin with a healthy foundation, and that’s why we offer the following preventive and restorative procedures.

Cleanings

Regular cleanings are an important part of what we do at Fresno Dental Studio. By removing any plaque and tartar along your gumline, we can help you prevent problems such as cavities and gum disease. During your cleanings, we may also offer you fluoride treatments or sealants for extra protection against tooth decay to reduce your risk of invasive dental procedures down the road.

Fillings

Fillings repair tooth damage due to decay or trauma. All of our fillings are tooth-colored and virtually unnoticeable. Depending on the degree of damage, we will perform one of two types of fillings: direct or indirect. A direct filling involves placing a soft composite resin filling onto the tooth, which is then hardened under a special light. If the decay is too extensive for a filling, we will use an indirect filling, which involves creating a porcelain filling outside of the mouth and then bonding it onto the tooth.

Bonding

If you have a cracked or chipped tooth, bonding can help restore it to its former appearance. Bonding works by applying a composite resin material onto the tooth, sculpting and polishing it until the damage is concealed.

Crowns

Crowns are porcelain caps that fit completely over a tooth and are used in cases where tooth decay is too extensive for a filling to repair. They are also used to help build up worn-down teeth or to protect a tooth after a root canal.

Root Canals

If tooth decay extends into the pulp, which is the tissue in the center of your tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels, you will need a root canal.  A root canal removes any infected pulp tissue and replaces the hollowed-out space with an antibacterial substance. Dr. Denes will then place a crown over that tooth to protect it.

Gum Disease Treatment

Non-surgical treatments for gum disease include scaling and root planing. Performed under a local anesthetic, scaling involves scraping away plaque and tartar from below the gumline. Planing consists of smoothing out rough spots on the tooth root so that bacteria are removed and the gums will reattach to the teeth properly.

In addition to these general dentistry services, Drs. Alex and Claudia Denes perform a variety of cosmetic dentistry procedures as well.
